Letters to the Editor...
Fine Arts chatboard

I am a painter from Puerto Rico. As many
others I do teach art in a school. This is
a job that I love and enjoy.I hesitated to
write to the chatboard with my concerns but
to say the truth I am very glad I did. Like
me there are many other people that are
aware and concerned with the seriousness of
art education and the benefits of such.
Evidence is in the amount and content of
the responses to my letter (Arts vs.
Crafts). Many teachers, trained in art,
will benefit from a forum where more
relevant information about art education is
discussed. As I mention in the letter to
the chatboard, I do think crafts are
important to develop certain skills, and a
great tool for "art untrained" teachers
that face the need of acting as the art
teacher. The chatboard is great and
fulfills a need but a new one that attends
to the needs of the Art Teacher will be an
asset to Teacher's net and a great help for
those of us that are struggling to find new
ways to teach the standards of art
education established for the nation.
Can it be considered?
Thank you,
Miriam Soto
