#3718. The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes

Reading/Writing, level: Elementary
Posted Tue Mar 28 15:43:59 PST 2006 by Jo Ann Doughty (djd5@bellsouth.net).
St. John's Elementary School, Darlington, South Carolina
Materials Required: 3 sheets of large chart paper and colored markers
Activity Time: approximately 1/2 hour
Concepts Taught: comparing and contrasting characters

After I read the book to my students, I formed 3 cooperative groups and assigned each group one of the 3 main characters, (Peggy, Maddie, Wanda).
Each group had to write on the paper some adjectives that would describe that character.
They also had to write what good decisions the person made and what bad decisions the character made. The group also had to write a few suggestions of what the character could have done to make better choices. I used this to help teach my students about making good decisions and also peer relationships.
