#1746. "The First Seven Years" Letter Writing

Materials Required: short story "The First Seven Years" by Bernard Malamud
Activity Time: 1 45 minute period
Concepts Taught: point of view

1) Students come to class after having read the story.
2) Ask students to write a short note to Feld from his daughter Miriam, discussing her own dreams and plans.
3) Share these notes in groups. Each group chooses one to share with the full class.
4) Ask students to write a letter to their own parents about their own dreams, or about an issue that they are having trouble agreeing on.
5)OPTIONAL BUT ENCOURAGED: Send a letter home to ask parents to write back to their child's letter in response.
