Assessment Specialists will work closely with a mentor to develop competency in item writing, forms construction, and corporate personal relations skills.

Assessment Specialists are responsible for developing high-quality test products that meet the specifications of HEM products and/or custom contracts under supervision. These Specialists will review and edit items so that they are sound from both content and measurement perspectives. In addition, they will build field-test forms and live forms that conform to blueprints and appropriate psychometric criteria. They will develop associated ancillary products that are of high quality; seek to have all assigned work meet or exceed industry and project quality standards; and complete assignments according to specified schedules.

Assessment Specialists will interact effectively with others in specific content groups and colleagues on assigned project team(s). They will work with item writers to develop error-free and innovative items; follow procedures specified by test development manager(s), editorial support services, and the Production Department so that error-free assessment products are published. These Specialists will also plan and organize assignments so that they are completed by designated dates; keep accurate development records and identify obstacles/problems.

Assessment Specialists will provide quality service to and interact effectively with customers in routine situations on assigned projects. They will communicate clearly with customers, on the telephone, in writing, and face-to-face. In addition, they will facilitate productive review meetings at customer sites when called upon.

Assessment Specialists will also enhance professional knowledge and skills in assessment and field of expertise. They will engage in professional development activities that are identified by themselves and their supervisor. In addition, they will apply their enhanced knowledge and skills to work activities and products. They will also support the implementation of new technologies so that products are developed more efficiently.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in associated field (in either Math, English/Language Arts, Science, or Social Studies).
Preferred Education: 3+ years of teaching experience or equivalent, Master’s Degree, Ed.D. or Ph.D. in associated field.

Related experience—either in teaching, publishing, editing, desktop publishing, or journalism— is a plus.
